Yong Gap Kim is a Partner at LIN, where he leads both the Intellectual Property Team and the Japan Practice Team. With over two decades of experience, he has advised and represented leading multinational and domestic clients across a wide range of complex legal matters.

Before joining LIN in 2019, Yong Gap spent 19 years at Kim & Chang, where he developed deep expertise in cross-border matters, particularly those involving Japanese clients.

Yong Gap’s practice covers both contentious and non-contentious matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, and trade secrets. He is widely recognized for his ability to handle technically and legally complex disputes, and for providing strategic counsel on IP protection, licensing, and regulatory compliance.

Having worked closely with Japanese clients for many years, he is highly attuned to the commercial, cultural, and legal considerations unique to Japanese companies doing business in Korea. He continues to serve as a trusted advisor to major Japanese and international clients, particularly in high-stakes disputes and cross-border enforcement matters.

 Bulgaris Unfair Competition Case: Secured an order to suspend unfair competition where a competitor marketed yogurt under the name Bulgaria following the success of the client’s Bulgaris yogurt product.
 Represented a client in arbitration proceedings concerning violation of a non-compete clause by a German company.
 Trade Secret Infringement Cases: Pursued both civil and criminal actions against former and current employees for misappropriating confidential manufacturing facility blueprints.
 Viagra Domain Name Case: Successfully litigated the first Korean judgment recognizing sanctions against domain name cybersquatting.
